The USD 234 Board of Education will look to fill another vacancy on the board with the recent resignation of James Wood, board member since 2018. Wood, who was re-elected to a second term on the board in November, has resigned his position, effective Monday. Wood works at Diehl Banwart Bolton CPAs and was recently promoted to a partner position with the firm, which changed his work responsibilities, according to a district news release...

The Fort Scott High School Tiger varsity basketball teams each moved to 6-0 on the season with road wins over the Iola Mustangs Tuesday night. In their first action back from Christmas break, the Lady Tigers, ranked sixth in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings, posted a 57-23 win, while the Tiger boys, ranked seventh by the KBCA, held on for a 63-45 victory...

Sharon Rae Wagner Sarlls, age 81, Spring Hill, Kan., formerly of Amsterdam, Mo., passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023.   A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5,2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Charles Arthur Allen, 85, of Holland, Mich., passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2023, with his family lovingly by his side. Ken W. Brock, 77, Pittsburg businessman and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 with family by his side. Ken was born Feb. 4, 1946, to George and Florence (Chaplin) Brock. He was raised in Hiattville, Kan., southwest of Fort Scott. LeRoy Charles Detwiler, age 84, Paola, Kan., passed away at his home Dec. 28, 2023. A private service for immediate family will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kan.
