Bourbon County Commissioners on Tuesday approved the 2019 budget for publication. The proposed budget was approved with a 66.602 mill levy. The 2018 mill levy was 66.603. A public hearing on the budget will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. County Clerk Kendell Mason told commissioners the mill levy is an estimate at this point. She said the mill levy could change if there is a change in property values before the mill levy is set, according to unofficial minutes from Tuesday’s meeting...

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., touched on several issues affecting Fort Scott, Bourbon County and the state during a town hall meeting Friday morning at the Ellis Fine Arts Center on the campus of Fort Scott Community College.
