Fire department responds to blaze at Sugarfoot & Peaches (Local News ~ 11/10/17)
The Fort Scott Fire Department responded to a fire at Sugarfoot & Peaches BBQ shortly before 3 p.m. Friday. Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene for about three to four hours. Fire Chief Paul Ballou said it is too early to determine the cause of the blaze but the business has suffered “heavy damage.” The owner and at least one other person were at the scene and nobody was inside when the fire department arrived, Ballou said. Larry Wayne Johnston, 72, of rural Liberal, Mo., died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Mr. Johnston was born Nov. 24, 1944 in Fort Scott, the son of Wayne Caldwell and Margaret Lucille Wirt Johnston.
