The Fort Scott/Bourbon County Riverfront Authority announces the election of two new directors, Penny Pollock-Barnes and Dale Johnson. They will take the positions formerly held by Dean Mann and Mike Lakeman. Pollock-Barnes and Johnson are designated as Bourbon County directors and were approved by the county commissioners at their July 7 meeting...

The Bourbon County Treasurer's office is now processing commercial vehicle tags. "The tag process changed on Jan. 1, and Bourbon County had opted out of the system, prior to me taking office," Bourbon County Treasurer Rhonda Dunn said. "Bourbon County businesses had to go to another county to get their commercial tags, which was an inconvenience, when the process was new to everyone."...

A group of high school students are making it their mission to help the Fort Scott community. More than 40 high school students from the Wichita area, as well as their chaperones and a support team, arrived in Fort Scott last weekend for two weeks of interaction and work in the community through a summer Catholic youth ministry program called "Prayer and Action."...

William "Bill" Alfred Wolfinger, Sr., of Pleasanton, Kan., passed away on July 5, 2014 at 9:56 p.m. at the age of 81. Bill is preceded in death by his father and mother, John William and Jessie Ellen. Bill is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Wolfinger of Pleasanton, Kan.; his sister, Mary Ellen (Gray) Cheek of Morrilton, Ariz.; his children, William Wolfinger, Jr., of Dallas, Texas, Deborah Callahan of Gadsden, Tenn., Diana Robison of Lenexa, Kan., Deanna Bradley of Butler, Mo.; his grandchildren, Colin Lewis of Williston, N.D., Thomas Wolfinger of Kansas City, Mo., Amber Lewis of Bensalem, Pa., Michael Wolfinger of Piedmont, S.D., Morgan Bradley of Bulter, Mo.; and a great granddaughter Addison Wolfinger of Kansas City, Mo. ...
