Martin L. Thimesch, 61, Springfield, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in his home following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. The Kansas Highway Patrol plans to conduct a Roving Aggressive Violation Enforcement, known as RAVE, throughout Bourbon County on Friday, Dec. 14. The RAVE team is aimed at reducing aggressive driving and removing drivers operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs from public roadways. ...

Bourbon County Commissioners approved the purchase of a rubber tire excavator on Monday during its regular meeting. Commissioners chose a 2011 Hyundai 210W/9 rental model with 850 hours of use from Victor L. Phillips for $139,250. Commissioner Allen Warren said the money will come from a $75,000 finance agreement with UMB, $20,000 from the road and bridge budget and $44,250 from sales taxes targeted for hard surface roads...

The first-ever Chair-ity Auction, benefiting the Gordon Parks Museum on the Fort Scott Community College campus, raised $3,100.
