Families gather together to celebrate Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles DeMott were Janet McLaughlin, Gary and Stephanie Ziegler, Chad and Karen Clary, all of Lawrence; Stephen DeMott, Adrian and Mike, Kansas City; Matt DeMott, Arkansas; also Gary and Linda DeMott and family, and Trevor and Sara DeMott, Fort Scott. Kenny and Shawnee Clary and son visited in the afternoon and ate supper with the DeMotts.
Jim Good said all of their families were able to come for the holiday. They enjoyed two days of visiting with each other.
Birthdays at the Cherry Grove Church Nov. 25 were for Doylene Kennedy, Beverly Peel, and Earl Clyburn. The choir sang a special number. The Rev. Dale Cummins, pastor, presented a sermon titled, "Be Joyful" and scripture was from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24. Dec. 16 the choir will present a cantata at the morning service. The Christmas program will be at 6 p.m. that evening.
Larry and Ann Conner, Grove, Okla., and Doug, Elijah, and Bella Conner, Joplin, Mo., spent Thanksgiving with Pearl Conner. Elijah and Bella stayed a few days longer with their great-grandmother.
Those spending Thanksgiving with Terry and Janet Tucker were Seth and Laura Tucker and grandchildren, Greg and Gabe, Shelly Tucker and friend Zach Bradley and Janet's parents, Bob and Martha Cook.
Edna Mae Marsh, Hubert and Joan Thomas enjoyed Thanksgiving with John and Natalie Snyder and sons.
Eldon and Pam Korinek opened their home to family and friends for the holiday. Those attending were Lucile Wolf, Ruby Myers, Debra Marquardt, Ashleigh and Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Beerbower, Todd Beerbower, Mr. and Mrs. Gil Beerbower, Ryan and Austin, Mr. and Mrs. John Saldivar, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Korinek and Kyla Ann and Jay Morgan. Out-of-town guests were Carol Jean Mooney, Indpendence; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Aikin, Pittsburg; Lillian Korinek, Parsons; and Arnold Korinek, Oswego.
Dixie Woolley, foster boys William, Devin and Stephen, Catoosa, Okla., and Tom and Sue Secrest, Littleton, Colo., spent several days plus "Turkey Day" with Esther Secrest. Later in the evening, they went to Carol Bingesser's where they all enjoyed dessert with other relatives. The boys enjoyed riding Austin's horses.
Larry Lawrence, Arnold and Clara Schofield and Austin ate dinner with Carol Bingesser, Brittany and John for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Brillhart for the holiday were Mike and Peggy Brillhart and Caryn Hampton, Wheatland, Wyo.; Bob, Rochel and Corbyn Hampton, Council Grove; Matt and Teresa Brillhart, Hadley and Ivy, Independence, Mo.; Brianne and Cooper Brillhart, Ryan and Cami Bobbitt and Riley, Nevada, Mo.; Megan Brillhart, Overland Park; Mark and Diane Brillhart and Clayton, and Kate Brillhart, Fort Scott.
Natalie Snyder, Hubert and Joan Thomas and Edna Mae Marsh attended a special service at the Catholic Church, Miami, Okla.; honoring Nathan Wright, who died several months ago. It was also his birthday, Nov. 21.
Tom and Sue Secrest, Esther Secrest, Arnold, Clara and Austin Schofield and friend Levi, Carol and Brittany Bingesser and Larry Lawrence enjoyed dinner at Chicken Annie's Nov. 23.
Nov. 24, the Thomas family celebrated Thanksgiving with Greg Thomas, Rose Hill. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. John Snyder, Luke and Lucas and Edna Mae Marsh from Fort Scott. Also enjoying the day were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bob Wright, Bart and Drew, Miami, Okla., and Aunt Hazel from Wichita.
Margie Lauber spent three days of Thanksgiving week with Jean and Charles Stock, Nixa, Mo. Saturday after the holiday, they enjoyed the day with Julie Lattimer and family and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. V H. Gulliford and Nancy enjoyed Thanksgiving with Terry and Jean Hahnseid, Bronoaugh, Mo.
At the Diamond Community Church, the Rev. Stephen Muhota, pastor, presented the sermon, "Never Give Up," at the Nov. 25 service. Scripture was from John 5:1-15. The special, "Near the Cross," was sung by Joy Muhota, James Mugiri, and James Korian. They sang in their native language. The Christmas program will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 16. Clara Schofield had done an excellent job of decorating the church for Christmas.
Hazel Gulliford attended the wedding of Ashley and Jason Blight at the First Baptist Church in Nevada, Mo., Nov. 24. Pam Kendrick and daughters from Pennsylvania had the music for the occasion.
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas up and down Jayhawk Road.
