FSNHS to tell stories of women in wartime

The Fort Scott National Historic Site will present a two-part program at 2 p.m. Saturday highlighting the involvement of women in times of war, dating back to the Mexican-American War in 1846. The first part of the program, "Women at War," will be presented by the FSNHS, and will feature three living history vignettes performed by volunteer actors. The volunteers will "tell the stories of women during the Mexican-American and Civil Wars."...

Local law enforcement officials said they are pleased the snow which blanketed Bourbon County on Tuesday caused no major problems. Snow that began falling early Tuesday morning and continued through much of the day dropped just a couple inches of the white stuff, causing several cancellations in the area, but no major vehicle incidents...

She was born March 10, 1927 in Hiattville, Kan., the daughter of Alfred Sylvester and Anna Elizabeth "Schmitz" Hedges.
