The Fort Scott National Historic Site will present a two-part program at 2 p.m. Saturday highlighting the involvement of women in times of war, dating back to the Mexican-American War in 1846. The first part of the program, "Women at War," will be presented by the FSNHS, and will feature three living history vignettes performed by volunteer actors. The volunteers will "tell the stories of women during the Mexican-American and Civil Wars."...

Local law enforcement officials said they are pleased the snow which blanketed Bourbon County on Tuesday caused no major problems. Snow that began falling early Tuesday morning and continued through much of the day dropped just a couple inches of the white stuff, causing several cancellations in the area, but no major vehicle incidents...

Ruth Margaret Anderson, 86, formerly of Fort Scott, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2014 at the Aldersgate Village Nursing Home in Topeka, Kan. She was born March 10, 1927 in Hiattville, Kan., the daughter of Alfred Sylvester and Anna Elizabeth "Schmitz" Hedges. She Married Robert Paul Anderson on May 2, 1947 in Fort Scott, he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1971...

Donald Adolph Drake, age 77, resident of Denver, Colo., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his home. Funeral arrangements for Donald Drake will be announced by the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main.
