The U.S. Department of Agriculture has finalized procedures for the upcoming referendum on the continuation of the Sorghum Check-off Program and is announcing the dates it will conduct the referendum. For the program to continue, the Sorghum Promotion, Research, and Information Order requires that a referendum be conducted no later than three years after the start of assessments, which began on July 1, 2008. Madison, Pittsburg, was arrested on Jan. 23 at 3:09 a.m. by the Fort Scott Police Department for DUI, no proof of liability insurance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Fort Scott High School Physics Club will host a chili feed Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the commons area west of the main gym. A bowl of chili or a chili dog, home-made dessert and a drink costs $5. Proceeds will help fund club activities.

Many rural Fort Scott residents are left dealing with the damage after their mailboxes were vandalized over the weekend. According to Fort Scott Post Office Postmaster Robert Vacca, about 60 mailboxes in rural Fort Scott were damaged this weekend. He said the residents have been calling the post office and the rural mail carriers have been reporting the varying damage since Monday morning...
