Laura Lea Wratchford-Weikel, born on Feb. 9, 1973, in Fort Scott, Kan., passed away on Oct. 15, 2024, at St Luke's Hospice House, in Kansas City, Mo. She is survived by her husband, John Weikel, married on July 28, 2001, and her cherished children, Krislyn Hunter, Garrett Ellis, and Jenna Weikel, along with her granddaughter Kam.

Laura graduated from Fort Scott High School with her beloved class of 1991. Laura was a skilled medical claims processor who brought dedication and professionalism to her work. Beyond her career, she was an enthusiastic spirit who loved the Halloween season, scary movies, anything blingy, and conducting paranormal investigations. Laura also had a passion for personal shopping, always delighting in finding the perfect gift for those she loved. Friends and family remember her as a fiercely loyal person, who despite her dislike of hugging, showed her affection in countless thoughtful ways.

She shared a special bond with her friends that spanned over 30 years, a connection that was often mentioned by the medical staff who cared for her during her illness. Laura's strength and bravery throughout her recent health challenges were truly admirable; she never lost her spirit or humor, inspiring all who knew her.

Amongst all that helped Laura during her illness, special thanks to her sister Debbie. Sincere gratitude for being an advocate for Laura, thank you for your kindness, support and care of Laura during her illness.

Laura is also survived by her father, Charles Wratchford, sister Debbie (Kevin) Schafer, Nephews Adam (Shannon) and Alex (Casey) Morris and brother John (Tonya) Wratchford and niece Whitney. Mother and father-in-law, Sonnia Weikel and Edward Weikel. Brothers-in-law Paul Weikel, James Weikel and Peter Weikel. Neice Makayla and Nephew Ethan. As well as her great-nieces and her bonus grandkids. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who appreciate the joy and laughter she brought into their lives.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, Mary Wratchford. Infant sister, Rebecca Sue. Sister-in-law Susan Meret, brother-in-law Sam Morris and closest friend Melissa Mitchell.

In her own words, Laura embraced life with the motto "get busy living," and she did so with a heart full of love for those around her. The family expresses their gratitude for the support from friends, the community of Bourbon County, the Class of 1991, and Care to Share during this difficult time. Laura's vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Celebration of life will be at Buck Run Community Center Fort Scott, Kan., at 1 p.m. with a lunch to follow.
