Patsy Lee Scott

Patsy Lee Scott, age 85, of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away peacefully at her daughter’s residence in Olathe, Kan., while surrounded by family on Aug. 24, 2024.

Pat was born on Feb. 8, 1939 to Max and Naomi Fanning in Fort Scott, Kan. She married the love of her life, John Scott Sr., in Arcadia, Kan., on March 28, 1961. Pat and John were blessed with 54 years of marriage.

Pat was deeply devoted to her Faith and friends, but anyone who was lucky enough to have Pat in their lives knew that family was the center of her life. Her grandchildren; Sarah Elizabeth DeNeff (Olathe, Kan.), John David DeNeff (Olathe, Kan.), and Sam Scott (Hamilton, Ohio) brought endless pride and joy to her life.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Max (1984) and Naomi (1989) Fanning, her husband, John Scott Sr. (2015), and her daughter, Shelly Anne Scott (2017).

Shelly and Pat were both naturally compassionate, leading to a shared love of nursing. Pat completed her BSN at Pittsburg State University in 1994. Later in her career, Pat would transition to the insurance industry, where she was a founding director at MedPlans 2000.

Pat was a proud breast cancer survivor and championed the cause at every opportunity.

Pat is survived by her son, John (Linda) Scott Jr. (Hamilton, Ohio), and daughter Carol Scott (Olathe, Kan.). Additionally, Pat is survived by her sisters; Colleen (Bob) Meacham (Topeka, Kan.), Moreen Smith (Stockton, Kan.), Sarah Berntson (San Francisco, Calif.), Suzanne (Kevin) McKibben (Roseville, Calif.), Max Fanning (Jolynne Mitchell) (Fort Scott, Kan.), and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of the friends who supported Pat, especially after John Sr. and Shelly’s passing. The family would also like to thank Presbyterian Village and Hospice of Olathe for being there to help Pat through this journey. These organizations are truly doing God’s work.

Graveside services will be held at Evergeeen Cemetery on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. Following the service, a celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Ellis Fine Arts Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Care to Share of Fort Scott (P.O. Box 133 Fort Scott, KS 66701).
