City commissioners discuss options for building said to be on the verge of collapse
Fort Scott City Commissioners on Tuesday agreed to take the first step in addressing the deteriorating condition of a building that houses the Fort Scott Barber Shop at 118 E. Wall St.
City Manager Brad Matkin said the building is in “really bad shape” and the issue was one that could “come to the table quickly.” City officials said they are working to address the matter quickly, as the building is becoming a hazard.
Leroy Kruger, codes technician for the city, said he is concerned with the fading condition of the building, as well as the adjacent buildings. He said there is currently no contractor to perform repair work and the owner has told him “they’re at a point where repair costs far exceed the value of the building.”
