Districts grappling with students' cell phone policy while state forms task force to research issue

Policies on cell phones in classrooms differ in school districts across the state as school officials wait on recommendations from a state task force that is researching the issue.

Last month, the Kansas State Board of Education asked Kansas Education Commissioner Dr. Randy Watson to form a blue ribbon task force charged with creating guidance for addressing the non-academic use of phones in pre-K-12 classrooms in Kansas.
