Clinton Walker, Democratic candidate for the Bourbon County Commission District 1 seat, speaks as incumbent Republican Brandon Whisenhunt, left, listens during the candidate forum Thursday evening at Fort Scott High School.

Incumbent Bourbon County Commissioners each face opposition as the Aug. 6 primary election nears ahead of the Nov. 5 general election.

The three current commissioners and their opponents were given chances to voice their stances on local issues such as solar panel developments and taxes, and also weighed in on the responsibilities of commissioners and other matters during a Primary Election Forum Thursday evening at Fort Scott High School.

Candidates for local, state and federal offices participated in the forum, which was hosted by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce. Candidates were given time for brief opening and closing statements, as well as respond to questions submitted by community members.

The forum was moderated by Deb McKenney, 2024 chamber board chairman.
