Fort Scott has not committed to announced summer baseball league

For now, Fort Scott will not have a team as part of a new summer collegiate baseball league, but details are being worked out, according to City Manager Brad Matkin.

On May 30, a news release from the Central Plains Baseball League was sent to several media outlets, including the Tribune. The release announces the creation of a new baseball team called the Fort Scott Marshals, which would begin play in May 2025. City officials at the time said they were not aware of the announcement and the city had not signed on to the league.

On Friday, Matkin told the Tribune he was working to determine whether the league is legitimate, and had a meeting scheduled with a league representative Friday afternoon.
