Joanne M. Baranske
Joanne M. Baranske died early Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at her home in Stark. She was 82.
She was born Aug. 29, 1942, in Waukegan, Ill., to Theodore Hanlon and Laverne (Salo) Hanlon. She was their only daughter. She had three brothers, Ted, Chuck, and Jimmy, her twin.
Joanne spent her childhood in Waukegan. Some years after high school, she moved with her daughters to Denver, where she became a fierce fan of the Denver Broncos. She later moved to Fort Scott, eventually splitting her time between there and southern Florida. She moved to Stark in 2004.
"Working woman" described Joanne. She held jobs as a house cleaner, a monument saleswoman, and a long-haul trucker, a job that took her to almost every state. At the time of her death, she worked in Chanute at Walmart, where she was known to many customers, young and old, for her smiles and friendliness.
She also made and sold a variety of crafts, owned and operated a fabric shop, and raised miniature schnauzers. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, following news, watching football, studying the Bible, and going for rides in the country with her husband. She attended the Nazarene Church in Erie and enjoyed fellowship with her church family.
She married Marion Jimmy “Jim” Baranske on Nov. 3, 2016, in Miami, Okla. He survives.
She is also survived by her daughters, Sheri Harbaugh of Lakewood, Colo., Shelly Haselden of Okeechobee, Fla., and Stacey Schifferdecker of Tulsa; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. Friends may come to the funeral home starting at 1 p.m. Friday to sign the register. Online condolences may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com
