Fort Scott firefighters will receive an increase in their pay, which is intended to help with recruiting and retention.

Fort Scott City Commissioners on Tuesday gave their blessing to the increase following a presentation by Deputy Fire Chief Mike Miles.

Wages will increase an average 10% to 12%. Miles said a new employee will receive an additional 3% for each certificate (firefighter, EMT, driver) they earn, which could bring their hourly wage up to $13.08 the first year.
