City commissioners’ support sought for three housing developments

The former Fort Scott Manor building has been sold. The owner is applying for grant funds to create fair-market value apartments.

During their regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 7, Fort Scott City Commissioners received requests of support for three housing development projects.

A special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at City Hall to consider a request of the city’s support of a proposed housing development, as well as a waiver of building permits and impact fees, help with water metering, sanitary sewer tie in and storm water runoff for a pocket neighborhood.

Patrick Wood of Fort Scott is hoping to move forward with the creation of a pocket neighborhood on property that once was a mobile home park along Horton and 19th Streets, north of Community Christian Church.

The buildings at 19 and 23 S. Main St. are under contract and if funding is approved, are slated for renovation on the second and third stories for middle-income apartments.
