City work session interrupted
The Fort Scott City Commission budget work session was interrupted Tuesday due to a disturbance outside City Hall.
As the work session neared the hour point, at about 6 p.m., yelling could be heard outside. Police Chief Travis Shelton, who was attending the meeting, left the meeting room and said he approached the individual, who appeared to be angry, as other officers were called to city hall.
Shelton told the Tribune he and the other two officers used “tools” from Crisis Intervention Team training to deescalate the situation. No arrest was made and the individual left the scene on his on volition with a family member.
As the incident was underway, city commissioners, city staff and a citizen attending the work session cleared the meeting room. The live-stream of the session was stopped.
A report from the work session will appear in a future edition of the Tribune.
