John J. (Jeff) Long
John J. (Jeff) Long, 61, passed away at Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden Campus on July 29, 2021. He was born on Oct. 22, 1959 at Great Lakes, Illinois Naval Hospital to Vernon R. Long and Jaunita E. (Chambers) Long of Kansas. He’s lived in Camden County since 1992.
He graduated from O’ Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, La., in 1977. On Aug. 18, 1984, he married Nancy Marie (Doan) Long in New Orleans. He joined the U.S. Navy in December 1986. ETC Long retired from the Navy in December 2006 and he was employed by TRF Kings Bay.
Jeff loved his family and friends and also loved to bowl, golf and play cards. He qualified for and participated on several All-Navy Bowling Teams through the 1990s and 2000s. He had several 300s, some 800s and was generous with equipment he wasn’t using.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Vernon R. Long. He leaves behind his wife, Nancy of St. Mary’s, Ga., and two sons, David M. Long of Woodbine, Ga., and Daniel T. Long of Denver, Colo.; his mother, Jaunita Long of LaCygne, Kan., two sisters, Janice Jeanne (David) Brooks of Ilwaco, Wash., and Joanne J. Long (Paul) of Frontenac, Kan.; two brothers, Joseph J. Long (Shania) of Baton Rouge, La., and James J. Long of Baker, La., along with many cousins, nieces and nephews who will cherish good memories. A ceremony will be held at a later date at Jacksonville, Florida, National Cemetery. Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Mary’s, Ga. is handling the arrangements.
