A homecoming for Navy Fireman

Almost 80 years after his death at Pearl Harbor, Navy Fireman Third Class William L. Barnett is coming home.
On Jan. 5, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced that Barnett, a 21-year-old sailor from Fort Scott, was accounted for on Sept. 14, 2020.
This week, Barnett’s remains were brought back to Fort Scott decades after his death on Dec. 7, 1941. A service for Barnett is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 28 at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.
