William “Bill” Charles Hoggatt

William “Bill” Charles Hoggatt, 78 of Wellsville, formerly of Olathe, passed away Jan. 24, 2021. Bill was born on Oct. 24, 1942 in Iola, Kan., to the late William Charles Hoggatt and Virginia Ann (Thompson) Hoggatt. They moved to Fort Scott, Kan., in 1955. He met the love of his life, Ludella Webb, attending high school in Fort Scott, Kan. They married after graduation on Dec. 10, 1961 and remained happily married for 59 years. They moved to Olathe, Kan., in 1964 where Bill devoted 33 years at the Olathe Fire Department. He served as fire fighter, lieutenant, operations chief and acting battalion chief, finally retiring in 1999 as fire captain. Bill served as past president of the Johnson County Fire Chiefs Association. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #19 and served as Associate Bethel Guardian of Job’s Daughters for Bethel #36. Bill and Ludella traveled after retirement and made Mesa, Ariz., their second home for winter and spent their summers in Gardner, Kan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Bill Moore and half-sister, Verlyne Bame.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ludella Hoggatt of Wellsville; sons: Charles Hoggatt and wife, Rhonda of Gardner, Kan., and Greg Hoggatt of Wellsville, Kan.; daughter, Rebecca Ahlenstorf of Spring Hill; sisters: Patricia Eastwood and Judy Button-Hobbs both of Fort Scott, Kan.; brother, Vernis Hoggatt of Springfield, Oreg.; grandchildren: Tarin Hoggatt, Colten Hoggatt, Wyatt Hoggatt and wife, Jennifer, Brandy Brown and husband Ray and Whitney Hoggatt; great-grandchildren: Cade, Cody and Bailey.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 29, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McGilley and Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula St., Olathe, KS 66061. Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Community Church, 19300 US-169, Spring Hill, KS 66083. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe.
