Leo E. “Al” Turner
Leo E. “Al” Turner, 93, of Keosauqua, Iowa, and formerly of Kansas, passed away on July 25, 2020 at Keosauqua Health Care Center. He was born on Feb. 25, 1927 in Fort Scott, Kan., to McAger and Hope Garrison Turner. He graduated from Uniontown High School and joined the Army shortly thereafter. Al was stationed in Italy and served there at the conclusion of World War II. After his honorable discharge, he married Lila Chamberlain on Oct. 7, 1949. Together they moved to Oregon and had five children, Beverly, Curt, Ken Tami, and Kerry. They later divorced. Al married Jannett Nasseth Nov. 15, 1980 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2003.
Al was a house painter for many years, eventually becoming a contractor. He also restored cars, which was both a hobby and an occupation. Al loved to study the Bible and was an ordained minister. He had a special interest in Creation science. He spent the majority of his adult life in Portland, Ore., and enjoyed going deep sea fishing. He also liked to read and keep up on politics and world events.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Dennis) Francis of Mount Sterling, Iowa, Tami (Steve) Bowden of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Ken (Penny) Turner of Terrebonne, Ore.; two step-daughters; Laura Howell of Seaside, Ore.; Cherie Long of Clackamas/Happy Valley, Ore.; three step-sons; Alan Roundy of Hillsboro, Ore.; Bruce Nasseth of Oregon City, Ore.; Jeffrey Nasseth of Gresham, Ore.; eight grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, McAger and Hope Turner; his wife, Jannett Turner; infant son, Kerry Brian; son, Curtis Dean; and dear friend, Julia Blythe.
Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. A private family burial and interment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley, Ore., at a later date. Online condolences may be directed to www.pedrickfuneralhome.com.
