Peaceful protests in Fort Scott

Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Citizens in Fort Scott and Bourbon County on Sunday and Monday evenings joined thousands across the country in protest.

The protests follow the death 46-year-old George Floyd, who on May 25, died after a white Minneapolis, Minn., police officer pressed his knee into the handcuffed Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes. During that time, Floyd pleaded with the officer, “Please. Please. Please. I can’t breath.”

Video of the arrest – and Floyd’s death – circulated on national media.
