Sarah Lucille Smith

Sarah Lucille Smith, 93, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2019, at the Olathe Hospice House. Sarah was born Oct. 30, 1925 to the late Eugene Earl and Myrtle Florence (Hunsicker) Bates in Uniontown, Kan. Sarah graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1942. Shortly after graduation, Sarah married Howard Joseph Smith in 1944. Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; a son, Roger Alan Smith. She is survived by six children, Dana French Smith; James Smith; Stephen Smith and wife Barbara; Craig Smith; Gina Hall and husband Danny; Sarah Coleman and husband Mike; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law Margaret Weatherbie and Gail Potter of Fort Scott and nephew Doug Potter of Fort Scott.

On behalf of our entire family we would like to thank the staff at Advent Health Shawnee Mission, Evergreen Community in Olathe, and Olathe Hospice House. They showed compassion and care for our mother and we are eternally grateful.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 1, at the funeral home. Sarah will be laid to rest with her husband Howard, at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fort Scott National Cemetery.
