Board approves bids for school roof repairs

Although the vote wasn’t unanimous, the USD 234 Board of Education on Friday approved a bid for roof repairs on four school buildings and the board office.

During a special meeting at the board office, the board approved by a 4-1 vote the recommended low bid of $924,763 from JB Turner and Sons Roofing and Sheetmetal of Topeka, for work to replace or repair roofs on district buildings.

The board also voted 5-0 in favor of paying Benchmark, Inc., a roofing contractor based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, $116,500 for “full-time project management services” for the roof project.
