Merle Dean Monroe

Merle Dean Monroe passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at the age of 77. He was born June 19, 1941, in Fort Scott, Kan.

Merle was a lifelong resident of Fort Scott where he worked hard all his life working as a truck driver for many years. Following his retirement he continued working until he couldn’t any longer.

Merle was the most kind-hearted, loving, amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a friend to everyone he met. You can bet he could make you laugh no matter what kind of mood you were in. He accepted and loved his children unconditionally. His family was his life, no one ever went without, and to all of us he walked on water. He always made a joke that he was “Merle’s Taxi Service” because he gave all kinds of people rides in town. I’m sorry to say that Merle’s taxi is (no longer available).

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Liberty Theatre.
