Ecks perform well at Caney Valley
CANEY — Colt and Bryce Eck performed well as Uniontown’s only entrants in the Caney Valley KanOkla Wrestling Tournament Saturday in a field of wrestlers from much larger schools.
Bryce, a freshman, finished in second place in the 132-pound class. He defeated Dylon Morrill of Cherryvale by an 8-1 score in the first round then went on to pin Issac Jennings of Fredonia in the third period of the semifinal round. He was pinned by Ethan Gilkey of Bartlesville, Okla., in the championship match.
Colt Eck, a returning two-time State Tournament qualifier for the Eagles, pinned Casen Barker of Iola in the first round. In the quarterfinals, R.J. McCann of Pawhuska, Okla., pinned Eck.
Eck still had an opportunity to finish as high as third and he took it. He pinned Independence’s Ian Lawson in his next match, then pinned Cody Peters of Bartlesville, Okla. Eck found himself in a rematch with McCann in the third-place match but avenged his earlier loss with a pin in just 57 seconds.
Uniontown will send wrestlers to Anderson County’s tournament Saturday morning in Garnett.
