5 receive juco volleyball accolades
Five Fort Scott Community College volleyball players were recipients of either conference or district honors for post-season teams released earlier this week.
Four Greyhounds were named to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Eastern Division (Division II) team. Sophomore middle blocker Brittany Barnekoff was named to the First Team. Sophomore outside hitter Mykah Wingerter was picked for a spot on the Second Team. Sophomore outside hitter Hana Ronnebaum and freshman setter Sophie Mader received Honorable Mention bids.
Adianez Rivera Reyes of defending national champion Coffeyville was named the Most Valuable Player. Seliann Concepcion Rodriguez of Coffeyville received Freshman of the Year honors. Highland head coach Job Bingesser, the son of former FSHS head coach Carol Bingesser, was named the Coach of the Year as his Scotties upset Coffeyville on the final day of the regular season to take the division championship for themselves.
Players also received All-District honors based on which of the two Region VI Division II post-season tournament groups their teams were placed in. Fort Scott’s players were picked for spots in District N.
Barnekoff and Mader were selected to the First Team. Wingerter and freshman libero Abbie Casper were picked for the Second Team.
Johnson County and Coffeyville, champions of the District M and District N tournaments, respectively, have both reached the national tournament semifinals, which were held Friday night. If both teams were to win, they’d face each other for the national title tonight.
