Michaud Defensive MVP; Campbell Coach of the Year
Fort Scott High School head football coach Bob Campbell was named Southeast Kansas League Coach of the Year and senior Alec Michaud was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player as the All-SEK football team was released Tuesday.
Campbell, who just completed a 23-year tour of duty as head coach (see related item, page 6), was chosen for the honor through a vote of his peers. Coaches also picked the All-SEK teams.
Michaud was selected as Defensive MVP as well as First Team running back and linebacker despite missing the Tigers’ last three games due to an injury.
Joining Michaud on the First Team offense are fellow Tigers Ty Gorman at wide receiver, Jarrett Shoemaker at tight end, and Mason Couch on the offensive line. All are seniors.
Offensive MVP Easton Dean of Labette County is also the First Team quarterback. Corbett Kimberlin of Chanute is the other wide receiver. Brandon Barrager of Coffeyville, Jacob McDonald of Chanute, and Tyler Brock and Jared Hubner of LCHS are the other linemen. Caleb Hentzen of LCHS was picked as an all-purpose player.
Four members of the league champion Tigers were chosen to the Second Team: quarterback Matt Campbell, running back Dalton Colvin, and linemen Korbyn Reyes and Aaron Emery. They are joined by Independence running back Amauryon Farley and offensive lineman Trevor Rinne, Labette County receiver Kale Irwin and lineman Parker Boring, Coffeyville receiver C.J. Kelley, lineman Jayden Crawford and all-purpose player Tajahn Thomas, and Chanute tight end Garrett Almond and all-purpose player Briley Peavy.
Senior receiver C.J. Horton represents Fort Scott on the offensive Honorable Mention list. Also included are Coffeyville quarterback Jaylen Logan, receivers Adam Rutherford and Trey Myrie and lineman Ethan Samples, Chanute quarterback Ty Bowman and receiver Lane Harvey, Independence quarterback Brayden Coller, tight end Ryan Bruce and lineman Trace Smith, and Labette County receiver Nathan Smith.
Along with Michaud, the other linebackers on the First Team defense are Fort Scott’s Treyton Wilson, Labette County’s Zach McCarty and Chanute’s Kimberlin. On the defensive line are Fort Scott’s Logan Hall, LC’s Caleb Haggard, Chanute’s Qualin Powell and Coffeyville’s Barrager. The secondary features Gorman, LC’s Hentzen, Coffeyville’s Thomas and Chanute’s Harvey.
Couch is a lineman on the Second Team along with Coffeyville’s Crawford, Chanute’s McDonald and Independence’s Rinne.
Linebackers are Kelly of Coffeyville, Dalton Misener and Tyler Davis of Chanute, and Cole Swearingen of Independence. The secondary has Fort Scott’s Nick Lawrence and Colvin, Chanute’s Peavy, and Labette’s Ehtan Jameson.
Honorable Mention defensive players are linemen Emery, Clayton Moore of LCHS and Marquise McDaniels of Coffeyville; linebackers Myrie and Ethan Camp of Coffeyville, and Irwin and Braydon Lewis of Labette County, and defensive backs Jacob Zubieta of Fort Scott, Logan of Coffeyville, Cody Schicke of Independence, Mason Manbeck and Jaden Costin of Chanute, and Trent Brock of Labette County.
First Team specialists are Kelley as the return man, Farley as the punter and Chanute’s Jacob Adams as the kicker. Second Teamers are Peavey as the punter, Zubieta as the kicker and Hentzen on returns. Peavey is the Honorable Mention returner.
