Tigers go down in three to Cardinals

LOUISBURG — Fort Scott High’s volleyball team took it to Eudora here before falling in three sets to the Cardinals, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23, in the first round of the Louisburg Class 4A Sub-State Tournament Saturday.

The 12th-seeded Tigers finished their first season under head coach Jenna Campbell with a 11-24 record. They played the second half of the season without their starting setter, Abby Lyons, after she suffered a knee injury.

Eudora (21-12) fell in the finals to fourth-seeded Louisburg, 25-14, 25-22. The Wildcats, who beat Iola, 25-14, 25-22, in the first round, move on to the Class 4A State Tournament at Hutchinson this weekend.

The Southeast Kansas League will be represented at State as Independence (37-2) will be the No. 1 seed and Chanute (33-6) is seeded second. They both will take part in pool play matches on Friday.

Uniontown, Northeast both ousted early

UNIONTOWN — Both sixth-seeded Uniontown and eighth-seeded Northeast were eliminated from the Uniontown Class 2A Sub-State Volleyball Tournament in the first round here Saturday.

Northeast played in the first match and fell to top-seeded Colgan, 25-4, 25-12. No other details were available. The Vikings finished the season 10-27.

Uniontown played in the final match of the first round and lost to Humboldt, 25-10, 25-17. Lauren Shinn had three solo blocks for the Eagles while Paige Mason had two.

Uniontown’s season ended at 16-22.

Colgan went on to beat Southeast in the semifinals, 25-21, 25-13, while Humboldt swept Three Rivers League champion Oswego, 25-20, 25-18. Colgan (40-0) then swept Humboldt in the finals, 25-6, 25-11 to advance to the Class 2A State tourney.
