County commissioners adopt 2019 budget
Bourbon County Commissioners approved the final 2019 budget after holding a public hearing Tuesday, knowing that funds in one line item had not been moved as it should have been.
The approved 2019 budget has an estimated mill levy of 66.602. The mill levy for the 2018 budget is 66.603.
Jail Administrator Bobby Reed attended the hearing to tell commissioners the amount of money budgeted for correctional salaries was not enough to meet the base salary amount. His salary request of $561,414.46 for salaries did not include holiday, overtime.
Reed said the line item for salaries is $459,608 in the proposed published budget.
Reed said correctional employees’ salaries are based on an 86-hour pay period and asked if commissioners had figured salaries based on an 80-hour pay period.
He said in the 2018 budget, he was given $611,000. As of July, he is about 5 percent below budget.
Commission Chairman Lynne Oharah said he recalls there was $55,000 that had been placed in the 2018 budget as a separate line item with no designation under the sheriff’s budget. That money was to go to corrections, but it has not been used yet.
After going through their notes, Oharah said the $55,000 line item was supposed to be moved into wages for corrections, but it was missed when the budget was published.
