MOUND CITY — Defending 11-man champion Jayhawk-Linn jumped out to a 3-score lead by halftime here Friday and went on to beat Uniontown 18-6 in Three Rivers League play.

Although the Eagles (0-2 TRL and overall) lost by about the same margin as they did to Southeast in last week’s season opener, head coach Jeremy Neville seemed to feel better about hit team’s play.

“We missed out on several plays that were there to be made,” Neville said. “Costly penalties did not help us, either. It has been a tough start, but we just need to keep building and continue to improve.”

Andrew Reed led the Eagle offense with 58 rushing yards on 15 carries. Ty Davidson rushed for 38 yards on 13 rushes and scored Uniontown’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. He also completed 6 of 18 passes for 39 yards.

Defensively, Reed made 19 tackles while Nick Hathaway was credited with 11 stops. Davidson also made 11 tackles.

Uniontown will host a league game against Northeast Friday night. The Eagles will be catching the Vikings on a short week as their home opener versus Yates Center was postponed Friday night due to travel concerns brought about by flooding in Woodson County. The Wildcats and Vikings are playing Monday night at Arma.

NOTES — Pleasanton scored on the first play from scrimmage versus Southeast Friday night and that was all it needed in an 8-0 victory. The Blu-Jays moved into a tie for first place with Jayhawk-Linn at 2-0, 2-0....
