Lattimer named All-Star in CIF
SALINA — Fort Scott’s Jake Lattimer was one of nine members of the Salina Liberty have received postseason honors from Champions Indoor Football.
Lattimer, a 2007 graduate of Fort Scott High School, was one of four Liberty players named to the Northern Conference Second Team. He finished with 7.5 sacks and 46 tackles in 11 games.
The five Salina players named to the Northern Conference First Team were quarterback Derrick Bernard, guard Kamalie Matthews, defensive end Travis Taylor, linebacker Ricky Wyatt and defensive back Trey Dudley-Giles. The other three on the Second Team were running back Dominique Carson, wide receiver Rashad Pargo, defensive end Jake Lattimer and defensive back Isiah Barfield.
Bernard was sensational in his first season in Salina, completing 56 percent of his passes for 1,766 yards, 49 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also rushed for 636 yards (49 per game) and scored 21 touchdowns.
Taylor finished third in the CIF with 11.5 sacks and had 77 total tackles. Wyatt had a team-best 95 tackles and 4.5 sacks while Dudley-Giles was second in the league with 10 interceptions and had 57 tackles.
Carson was named co-Offensive Player of the Year with Sioux City running back Darrian Miller, but was relegated to second team. Carson led the CIF in rushing with a 60.5 yards per game average and scored 19 touchdowns. He also returned three kickoffs for touchdowns.
Pargo caught 45 passes for 473 yards and 13 touchdowns. Barfield tied for fourth in the league with six interceptions and had 57 tackles while
Salina lost to Sioux City in the finals of the Northern Conference playoffs and ended the season with a 10-4 record under first-year coach Heron O’Neal. The Liberty were 1-11 in 2017.
