Eads, Beth win medals in distance events

WICHITA — Fort Scott High School senior Paxsten Eads and freshman Ella Beth won medals at the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships here over the weekend.

Eads won two medals in Class 4A girls’ distance events. She won the first one in the very first event of the meet on Friday morning when she finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:37.40. Taylor Briggs of Chapman was the winner in 11:03.78.

Eads finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run on Saturday in a time of 5:30.38 while Beth was just .02 seconds behind in sixth. Briggs also won this race in 5:09.06.

Beth also competed in the 800 meters, finishing 11th in 2:27.02. Sydney Burton of Abilene won it in 2:17.49.

The only boys’ entrant this season was the 4x100-meter relay team of Kyle Montojo, Dalton Colvin, John Montojo and Gage Lamb. They finished in 13th place in Friday’s preliminaries in 44.25 seconds and did not advance to Saturday’s final.
