Jack L. Winship

Jack L. Winship, 80, of Ottawa, Kan., passed away May 1, 2018 in Ottawa. He was born Sept. 29, 1937 in Bronson, Kan., to Dwight and Blanche (Russell) Winship. Jack was a 22-year United States Air Force veteran including two tours in the Vietnam War. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Lincoln, Neb., for 15 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survived by daughters, Vickie Kay (John) Browning, Thornton, Colo.; Sheryl Lynn (Frank) Cole, Lake Oswego, Ore.; grandchildren, Katherine Browning, Jack Cole and Owen Cole.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Karen and his sisters, Carol Monthey and Donna Winship.

Jack loved birds, his garden and reading books, particularly about United States history. He was proud of serving his country and proud of his career as a mailman. Jack was known by all for his great smile, his laugh and his kindness to others. He never met a stranger. He adored his grandchildren and daughters and they adored him. He will be deeply missed.

There will be a private service for the family at the Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo, Neb., Saturday, May 12, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
