Paola teams sweep for seventh consecutive year

Paola’s teams swept the team titles at Friday’s Fort Scott Relays for the seventh consecutive season. Paola’s boys, who have won this meet 11 straight times, scored 136 points, won five events and claimed 24 medals as they beat Chanute by 29 points.

Panther girls won 12 of the 18 events and 34 total medals as they scored 226 points. Nevada, which won 13 medals but no events, was a very distant second with 86.

Tiger girls finished in fourth place with 53 points. They won one event and 13 total medals. Fort Scott was the only boys’ team to not win an event in finishing fifth with 42 points, though they did pick up nine medals.

Paxsten Eads was the only Fort Scott athlete to win an event, taking the girls’ 3,200 meters easily with a time of 12 minutes flat. Paola’s Darian Hudgeons was 13 seconds behind for second. Fort Scott’s Emma Davis was fifth in 13:12.

Ella Beth won three medals for the Tigers. The freshman placed second in the 800-meter run in 2:28, just a second behind Anderson County’s Averi Wilson. Gabriella Clements was fifth for Fort Scott in 2:39 while Macayla McClure finished sixth in 2:47.

Beth was also second in the 1,600 meters, which Wilson also won, in 5:36. Wilson was eight seconds faster this time. Eads was fourth in 5:44 and Clements was sixth in 6:01.

Beth was fourth in long jump at 15 feet, 6 inches to complete her day. Emily Taylor of Paola was the winner at 16’ 4 1/2”.

Fort Scott’s girls’ 4x800-meter relay team placed second with a time of 11:12 while Paola was the winner in 10:42. The Tigers were 35 seconds faster than third-place Anderson County.

Gracie Krokroskia was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.01 seconds. Azziza Patillo of Paola was the winner in 49.04.

The girls’ 4x400-meter relay finished fifth in 4:30. Paola won it in 4:15.

Addi Lyons placed sixth in the 200 meters in 28.79. Sophie Jones of Paola was the winner in 26.31.

Tiger boys had two second-place results. Connor Fess was second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.96 while Ryland Porter of Anderson County was the winner in 2:11.46.

The boys 4x100-meter relay took second in 45.05 while Parsons won it in 44.24.

Gage Lamb won a pair of medals for the Tigers. He placed third in 100 meters in 11.47 and fifth in the 200 in 23.21. Keshaun Anderson of Labette County won the 100 in 11.18 as Fort Scott’s Korbyn Reyes was sixth in 11.85. Darell Jones of Coffeyville claimed the 200 in 23.11.

Dalton Colvin was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.21. Carson Eilts of Paola won that in 41.52.

Andrew Callahan placed third in discus with a throw of 135’ 8”. Hagen Henderson of Chanute was the winner at a distance of 168’ 3”.

Nick Lawrence was fourth in the 400 meters in 52.54 with Devin McHugh of Nevada winning it in 50.84.

C.J. Horton rounds out Fort Scott’s results with a sixth-place triple jump of 37’ 4 1/2”. Davonte Yates of Parsons cleared 43’ 4” to win it.

Earlier in the week, the Tigers also participated in a meet at Columbus on Tuesday. Both teams finished in eighth place. The girls scored 31 points while the boys matched Frontenac’s total of 25. Pittsburg swept the team titles with the girls scoring 130 points and the boys 161.

Eads won the girls’ 1,600 meters in 5:37 for the Tigers first of nine medals.

Beth was third in the 800 meters in 2:36.65 while Clements was fifth in 2:43.59. Runner-up Renee Trout of Independence was three seconds off the winning pace.

Abby Humble was fourth in shot put with a mark of 30’ 9”. Tacy Holsten was fourth in javelin with a throe of 89’ 6” while Hannah Vann was sixth at 86’ 2”.

The 4x800-meter relay team placed fifth in 10:55.75

Krokroskia finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 55.08. The 4x400-meter relay team was also sixth in 4:35.

Callahan was second in boys’ discus at 123’ 8”, just 2 inches behind Reece Willis of Pittsburg.

Lawrence placed fourth in the 200 in 23.35 while Fess was fourth in the 800 in 2:10.62. The 4x100 relay team was also fourth in 41.10.

Lamb placed fifth in the 100 meters in 11.71. Lawrence finished fifth in the 400 in 52.25 and Fess was sixth in the 1,600 in 5:11.

The Tigers compete in Girard Friday.
