’Hound softball crushes N. Arkansas
A two-week layoff didn’t affect the bats of Fort Scott Community College’s softball team very much as the Greyhounds routed North Arkansas, 22-3 and 9-1, in a non-conference doubleheader at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex Thursday afternoon.
Fort Scott (6-0) has tied the 2002 team for the best start in school history. Lana Ross’ squad will look to set a new standard this afternoon with a home doubleheader against State Fair, Mo., at the complex. First pitch is at noon. They will also host the Park University junior varsity at noon on Sunday and travel to Maple Woods on Monday.
Abby Cox (3-0) allowed 6 hits and a walk while striking out 5 in the opener. Shelby Choate hit a double and her second home run of the season as part of a 3-for-5, 5 RBI performance. Sierra Sanderson, Aimee Wimp, Mikala Galvin, Madison Druse and Brookly Walters each had 4 hits. Druse also hit her first homer of the season and Galvin drove in 6 runs as she belted three doubles.
Tailor Hutsell allowed 8 hits and a walk while striking out 5 in the second game. Druse drove in 3 runs while Galvin and Allie Rooks each drove in 2.
Rooks was 3 for 4 at the plate as was Choate. Sanderson went 2 for 4 and Britney Smith was 2 for 3.
FSCC is 4-0 against North Arkansas this season, outscoring the Pioneers, 58-6.
