Montojo, Eck represent area at State

The Tribune Area had two representatives in State wrestling tournaments over the weekend. Senior Kyle Montojo represented Fort Scott High School in Class 4A competition at Salina while sophomore Colt Eck wrestled for Uniontown in the Class 3-2-1A tourney in Hays.

Montojo (24-18) lost in the first round at 126 pounds to Concordia senior Blake Leszler (39-6) by major decision, 12-1. He pinned Bonner Springs senior Jacob Sullivan (23-12) in his first consolation match. Adam Whitson of Buhler (30-13) eliminated Montojo by pin in the second round of consolation.

Eck (34-8) pinned Sabetha junior Kamden Brownlee (29-13) in the first round at 152 pounds. He lost to Smith Center senior Colton Hutchinson (43-4) in the quarterfinals by major decision, 14-5. Hutchinson finished as the State runner up following a 3-0 loss to Hoisington senior Christophe Ball (44-1) in the finals.

In consolation, Eck was eliminated by Minneapolis senior Scott Kuder (35-11) by an 11-7 decision, Kuder went on to finish sixth.

Arkansas City, which has been a Class 5A power, won the team title in Class 4A while Scott City took the crown in Class 3-2-1A.
