Southern Coffey County sweeps Uniontown.
UNIONTOWN — Uniontown’s teams swere swept buy Southern Coffey County in non-league games to conclude the regular season here Friday night.
Uniontown girls (4-16) lost 44-32. Karleigh Schoenberger led the Eagles with 8 points while Danielle Young collected 6 rebounds.
Eagle boys (7-13) lost 73-44 to SCC. Ben George led Uniontown with 10 points.
Both Eagle teams will be on the road for the first round of the Colgan Class 2A Sub-State basketball tournament, which was seeded and begins Monday.
Uniontown’s girls are the No. 7 seed (all records except Uniontown’s are as of Wednesday, when the teams were seeded) and will face No. 2 Yates Center (14-5) on the road at 7 p.m. Monday night. Should the Eagles score the upset, they will face the winner of Monday’s game between Shawnee Maranatha Christian and Pleasanton Thursday night in Pittsburg. Marnatha is the No. 6 seed at 4-14 while Pleasanton is No. 3 at 12-6.
The other half of the girls’ bracket has Oswego (4-14), the No. 5 seed, playing at No. 4 Olathe Heritage Christian (6-12) and Kansas City Christian (2-16) playing at top-seeded Colgan (15-4). The winners of those games also meet Thursday at Colgan. The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday night in Pittsburg.
Uniontown’s boys are the No. 5 seed and play at Kansas City Christian (8-10) at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. That game is in the same half of the bracket as Monday’s game featuring No. 8 Heritage Christian (3-15) at Colgan (17-2). On the other side, No. 6 Pleasanton (6-12) will play at No. 3 Yates Center (16-3) Monday night and No. 7 Oswego (3-15) will travel to No. 2 Maranatha (16-2).
First round winners play in the semifinals Friday night in Pittsburg. Uniontown would face the Heritage Christian-Colgan winner if it wins. The championship is set for 7:30 Saturday night in Pittsburg.
Northeast boys will host Monday night.
Northeast’s boys (13-7) earned the No. 2 seed in the Riverton Class 3A Sub-State and will host No. 7 Neodesha (3-16) at 7 p.m. Monday night in Arma. The Vikings beat Neodesha on the road earlier in the season. The Bluestreaks’ only three wins this season are all over No. 8 Fredonia (0-19), which plays at top-seeded Caney Valley (17-2) Monday night.
Should Northeast win Monday night, the Vikings will face the winner of Monday’s game between No. 6 Southeast (8-12) and No. 3 Cherryvale (11-8), which will be played at Cherryvale, in one of Thursday night’s semifinals. The other semifinal will pit the Fredonia-Caney Valley winner against the victor of Monday’s game between No. 5 Riverton (8-11) and No. 4 Erie (11-8), which will be played in Erie.
Northeast’s girls (5-15) are the No. 7 seed and will play Southeast (10-10) at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in Cherokee. The winner of that game faces the winner of the game between No. 6 Neodesha (5-14) and No. 3 Caney Valley (9-10), which will be held in Caney, on Friday night. On the other side of the bracket Tuesday, No. 5 Cherryvale (7-12) is at No. 4 Fredonia (8-11) and No. 8 Riverton (3-16) plays at No. 1 Erie (13-6).
Boys’ semifinals will take place Thursday night, girls’ semis on Friday night and both championships on Saturday with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30. All those games will be played in Riverton.
Both Northeast teams swept winless Altoona-Midway teams Thursday night. The girls won 58-13 and the boys 79-27.
