Tiger trio sign letters of intent Wednesday

Three Fort Scott High School seniors signed letters of intent to play football at in-state colleges in the high school commons Wednesday morning.

Zarek Fewell, who set FSHS records for single-season rushing yards, total touchdowns and total points last season, signed to play at Garden City Community College. The Broncbusters, NJCAA National Champions in 2016, are coached by Jeff Sims, who was head coach at Fort Scott Community College from 2007-2010.

Andrew Callahan, one of the linemen who led the way for Fewell this season, signed with Butler Community College, El Dorado. He follows in the footsteps of 2015 FSHS graduate Austin Cook with the Grizzlies.

Gunnar Brown, who played receiver and defensive back for the Tigers, signed with MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe, of which former FSHS quarterback and current assistant coach Johnathan Stark is an alum.

Meanwhile, at Fort Scott Community College, the recruting class for second-year head coach Kale Pick rose in numbers during the day. By 5 p.m., the list featured 22 players, including five from Kansas high schools.

The in-state players listed were David Artega, a wide receiver/defensive back from Garden City; Darren Gilkey, a tight/end defensive end from Class 4A-Division I State champion Bishop Miege; and Larry Jones, running back/defensive back, Marcus Dotson, running back/DB, and Dameion Roark, nose guard/center, all from Kansas City-Wyandotte.
