Hall goes 2-2 at tough Rose Hill Invitational

ROSE HILL — Fort Scott High’s boys’ wrestling team made their annual trek to the Rose Hill Invitational here over the weekend, a tournament that featured 24 schools, six of which are ranked in their classes by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association.

The best day in the six-man Tiger contingent was had by Logan Hall at 160 pounds, who went 2-2. He lost in the first round to Derby’s Treston Willis, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, but went on to pin Ian Alimbaugh of McPherson and take a 10-6 decision over Thomas Halstead of Winfield before he was eliminated by pinfall by Arkansas City’s Dante Rodd.

Corbin Shelden was 1-2 at 113 pounds. He was pinned in the first round by Rose Hill’s Kyle Sackett, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A. He then pinned Caleb Wiedeman of Salina Central before being eliminated by pin by Landon Crews of McPherson.

Kyle Montojo was also 1-2, wrestling at 126 pounds. He was pinned in his first match by Xavier Sisco of Derby, who is ranked No. 6 in 6A. He took a 9-2 decision over Briggs Erwin of Augusta before he was elimination on a major decision, 9-0, by Jacob Sullivan of Bonner Springs.

Donald Harper wrestled at 106, which had 20 entrants, and finished 0-2. He was pinned by Mulvane’s Chadwick Stahl and Andale’s Caleb Pavlacka.

Daevin Caldwell was 0-2 in an 18-wrestler bracket at 138. He was pinned by Avin George of Augusta, ranked No. 6 in 4A, and Daniel Neiman of Andale.

Jacob Zubieta was 0-2 at 145. Andrew Wolf of Wellington won an 11-2 major decision in the first round. Chase Pywell of Lindsborg-Smoky Valley won a 4-2 decision.

Grayson Quick was 0-2 at 220, another 18-man bracket. He was pinned by Chanute’s Qualin Powell and McPherson’s Kourtney Craig.

As a team, Fort Scott tied for 23rd with Jayhawk-Linn with 6 points. Bonner Springs, No. 3 in Class 4A, won the team title.
