Eck places second at Eureka
EUREKA —Uniontown sophomore Colt Eck placed second in the 152-pound class in the Eureka Invitational here Saturday.
Eck, who has a record of 22-6 this season, recorded pins in his first three matches. He stuck Iola’s Dylon Reiter in one minute, 23 seconds in the first round, Calvan Brown of St. Marys in 3:46 in the quarterfinals and Buddy Claiborn of Fredonia in 3:20 in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Grant Scheer of Rose Hill took a 9-4 win over Eck. Scheer is ranked No. 6 in the 152-pound class in Class 4A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association and has a 23-2 record.
Junior Hayden Miller (8-11) also took part, wrestling at 170 punds. He received a first-round bye before he was pinned by Todd Palic of Marion in the quarters. In consolation, he pinned Decin Craig of Eureka before being eliminated by pin by Michael Diaz of Rose Hill.
Uniontown will send wrestlers to a junior varsity tournament in Fort Scott on Saturday. The next varsity event is scheduled for February 2 in Burlingame.
