Gorman signs with Drury University
Katie Gorman, daughter of Jason and Krista Gorman, Fort Scott, has committed to play volleyball and continue her education at Drury University, Springfield, Mo. Gorman spent the last two seasons as a part of the Fort Scott Community College program, playing an integral part as the Greyhounds recorded a 27-11 record in 2016 and a 26-10 record in 2017. Fort Scott was ranked as high as eighth in the country this past fall.
Gorman is a 2016 graduate of Fort Scott High School.
In each of her two seasons at FSCC, Gorman was named to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Academic Team, National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic Third Team and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Gorman was a two-year captain for the Greyhounds. As a freshman, Katie earned KJCCC All-Conference and Second Team All-District Honors.
As a sophomore, Gorman was named First Team All-Conference at libero, First Team All-District and was nominated for NJCAA All-American. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Fort Scott, Neosho County and Coffeyville Tournaments this past season, and was named KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week four times.
Gorman led the nation in digs this season, with 997. Over her two-year career at Fort Scott, Gorman tallied 1,773 digs. These accomplishments made her No. 1 in FSCC volleyball history in digs in a seaosn and a career.
“I am extremely proud of Katie and everything she has been able to accomplish as a Greyhound,” FSCC head coach Lindsay Hill said. “Katie was the poster child for what our program is about and represents. There is no doubt that she will be very successful at Drury. Drury has a great volleyball program and is a great academic school. I am honored to have coached Katie for two seasons and look forward to watching her many successes at Drury.”
Gorman plans to major in biology and then attend physical therapy school.
