USD 235 to implement eligibility policy for all activities
The Uniontown USD 235 Board of Education on Monday approved the adoption of a new eligibility policy for students participating in all school-sponsored activities.
The new policy will be effective at the beginning of the second semester for the junior and senior high schools.
“Mr. Calvin has been getting the report out right now even though it’s not active, just to see where people would fall if it were active,” Superintendent Bret Howard said.
He said he would have not hesitancy in activating the policy.
According to the policy, eligibility begins at the end of the third week of each semester, with the eligibility cycle running from Sunday to Saturday.
Reports must be submitted by 8:30 a.m. each Friday. Students are ineligible for the duration of the cycle if they have an average of less than 60 percent in one or more classes, or an F on the report. A student can become eligible again when their average is increased above 60 percent.
Students who have an out of school suspension will be considered ineligible during that OSS.
Ineligible students will not be allowed to miss a class or leave a class early for a game or event. The student will be allowed to practice, but will not be allowed to suit out or participate in a game or event.
Ineligible students will not be allowed to attend school-sponsored dances, art night, club or student council activities. However, students may attend prom regardless of their eligibility.
Students who are enrolled in classes that have a graded performance or field trip will be allowed to participate in those activities in order to maintain their grade.
