’Hound women split at Johnson
OVERLAND PARK — Fort Scott Community College women’s basketball started off its season by splitting two games at a “classic” played at Johnson County over the weekend.
Friday, the Greyhounds lost to North Central Missouri, 60-57, after being outscored in the fourth quarter, 19-10. Saturday, Fort Scott rolled by Penn Valley, Mo., 81-69.
The ’Hounds led Friday’s game 17-16 after one quarter and 29-25 at the half. The lead grew to 47-41 as the fourth quarter began.
Ally McKenzie, a 6’ 1” sophomore from Junction City, led Fort Scott with 15 points while Jada Perry, a 5’ 5” freshman from Little Rock, Ark., added 10. Returning post Sarah Kelley grabbed 10 rebounds for the ’Hounds.
Sarah Lamp led the Pirates with 23 points on 11-o-f-19 field-goal shooting. Kenedy Eaton added 16 and Nicole Kost had 12.
Saturday, the Greyhounds led most of the way with 5’ 9” Derby freshman Jade Winter coming off the bench to score 22 points. McKenzie added 13 points while Kelley, a 6’ 1” sophomore from Houston, Mo., added 12. Kassidy Snowden led Penn Valley with 23 points followed by Kaylee Vantrump off the bench with 19 and Octavia Lowery finishing with 12.
McKenzie led Fort Scott with 9 of its 39 rebounds.
Tonight at Arnold Arena, the Greyhounds play their home opener as the first game of a doubleheader versus the Saint Mary JV with FSCC’s men. Play begins at 5:30 p.m.
