Vikings sweep CNC foes, at Erie today
Northeast High School’s volleyball team capped the regular season at Galena Tuesday night with wins over a pair of CNC schools. The Vikings (14-19) swept Galena (scores not available) and Columbus, 25-14, 25-23.
“We played well against Galena in the first set,” Northeast head coach Russ Cramer said. “Had a bad start to the second set and dug a hole early. We did a good job of fighting back to win that set. We played well against Columbus winning in two. I thought our focus was better against them. “
We have been talking about our intensity and communication have to be better. Liz Toms and Brittney Wyland played really well for us on the front row. They hit the ball as well as I have seen them all year. Rachel Fox had a great day passing the ball as well. She has been very good for us this year as a freshman libero. Maddy Walker set the ball as well as I have seen her all year which gave our hitters good opportunities.”
The Vikings will play in the Erie Class 3A Sub-State Tournament this afternoon. Their first opponent will be third-seeded Neodesha (18-15) at about 3 p.m. If the Vikes win, they will immediately play in a semifinal against the winner of the earlier Cherryvale-Erie match. The championship match will be played at about 5:30. The winner of that match advances to the Class 3A State Tournament at Kansas State University next weekend.
