Eagles, Vikings fall in district play
The Tribune’s pair of Three Rivers League football teams suffered losses in district play Friday night. Full details were not available by the Tribune’s midnight deadline Friday night and will be presented in Wednesday’s edition should they arrive.
Northeast was eliminated from post-season play with a 46-6 loss at Erie. The Vikings fell to 0-2 in Class 3A-District 6 and 0-8 overall.
The Red Devils (1-1, 2-6) led 14-0 after one period of play and 32-6 at the half. They have a slim shot at making the playoffs but would have to beat Jayhawk-Linn (2-0, 7-1) Friday night and hope for tie-breakers to come out their way.
Northeast will conclude its season at home Friday night against Humboldt (1-1, 6-2). The Cubs lost at home to Jayhawk-Linn, 34-30, and need a win to secure a playoff berth.
Uniontown fell at home to Yates Center, 24-22, in a game that counted in both Three Rivers League 11-Man play and Class 2-1A District 3.
The Eagles (2-2 TRL, 1-1 district, 4-4 overall) play at Colgan (2-0 district, 6-2 overall) Thursday night in a game that was rescheduled from Friday because Pittsburg High School needs the field to host a first-round game against Kansas City-Washington in the first round of the Class 5A Playoffs. They can still advance to the playoffs with a win over the Panthers and a loss by Yates Center (2-1 TRL, 1-1 district, 2-6 overall) to Oswego (1-2, 0-2, 1-7) Friday night. If Uniontown and Yates Center both win, tie-breakers will determine the two playoff qualifiers. The Wildcats currently have a disadvantage in a three-way tie as they still have a negative-point value in tie-breaker points (minus-19) while Uniontown is at plus-14 and Colgan sits at plus-42.
