‘Ironmen’ defeat Oswego in district play
OSWEGO — Uniontown’s football team won its Class 2-1A District 4 opener over Three Rivers League rival Oswego here Friday night, 34-18, as the Eagles put the game away with 22 fourth-quarter points.
“Our guys played true ironman football tonight as we started and finished the game with 12 players,” Uniontown head coach Jeremy Neville said. “We had some major adversity with illnesses and other things this week. This was truly a miraculous effort by our kids. You just won’t see something like this happen much.”
Andrew Reed rushed for exactly 100 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown for the Eagles (1-0 district, 2-1 TRL, 4-3 overall). He also intercepted a pass.
Hayden Miller rushed for 67 yards on 8 carries. Ty Davidson threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Miller and also ran for 62 yards and three scores. Gavin Fry added 35 yards on the ground and also had an interception.
“Oswego’s defense was fatigued in the fourth quarter and our run game was punishing. This was just a great overall team effort for our program.”
Oswego fell to 0-1, 1-2, 1-6.
District play continues Friday as Uniontown hosts Yates Center in a game that will also serve as the league finale. The Wildcats (0-1, 1-1, 1-6) lost to Colgan in District 4 play Friday night, 42-0. Colgan (5-2) hosts Oswego Friday.
