Greyhound volleyball goes 4-0 in Nebraska
COLUMBUS, Neb. — Fort Scott Community College’s volleyball team went unbeaten at the Central-Columbus invitational over the weekend.
Friday’s play began with a sweep of North Platte, Neb., 25-19, 25-18, 25-21. Megan Turner had 13 kills and 14 digs for the Greyhounds. Katie Gorman had 24 digs and Emily Jackson had 10. Karlee Stanley handed out 18 assists while Hannah White delivered 18. Mariah Oversold had 7 blocks and Grace Graniewski had 6.
Next, the ’Hounds defeated 16th-ranked Iowa Central in five sets, 25-13, 17-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-8. Turner finished with 26 kills in the match while Deardin Kelley had 15. White had 37 assists while Annalise Whitcomb had 28. Gorman finished with 48 digs while Turner had 31, White 13 and Jackson 10.
Saturday, the Greyhounds opened with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-14 sweep of Williston State, N.D. Turner had 12 kills for the Greyhounds while Kelley had 9. Whitcomb handed out 23 assists and White dealt 15. Gorman came up with 27 digs while Turner had 14, Whitcomb 11 and Kelley 10. Brittany Barnekoff had 9 blocks.
Finally, Fort Scott finished play with a five-set win over Northeast, Neb., 25-21, 19-25, 23-25, 25-12, 15-13. Turner picked up 20 kills while Kelley had 17 and Kayln Beel had 11. White finished with 33 assists while Whitcomb had 30. Gorman had 48 assists with Kelley and Turner each recording 17. Graniweski was in on 9 blocks.
The Greyhounds improved to 20-7 on the season, which is the fifth 20-win season for head coach Lindsay Hill in her six years at the helm. Fort Scott had only six 20-win seasons from the program’s inception through the 2010 season and those six came in a nine-year period between 1989 and 1997.
The Greyhounds travel to Arkansas City Wednesday night for a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division match versus Cowley. Play begins at 6:30 p.m.
