Tigers add Bolivar, Eudora to football schedules
The 2018-19 football schedules are known for two of the three area high schools that the Tribune covers. Fort Scott and Uniontown sent theirs in by email while Northeast posted its schedule on Twitter.
Fort Scott will play one new opponent but they’ll open the 2018 season on August 31 with a home Southeast Kansas League game against Coffeyville. This will be the first time the schools have opened the season against each other. The Tigers had played Parsons in the last six season openers, winning all of them, but that school has opted not to play a league schedule after it was assigned to Class 3A in football.
Fort Scott will go to Paola for their first road game on September 7. After that, they play four consecutive league contests. The Tigers will be at home against Independence on September 14, at Pittsburg on the 21st, home against Labette County on the 28th, and on the road at Chanute on October 5.
On October 12, the Tigers will play Bolivar, Mo., for the first time in school history. The home game will be Fort Scott’s first against a Missouri school since 2009, the last time they played Nevada.
On October 19, Fort Scott will play host to Eudora. The Tigers and Cardinals have met twice before in playoff games with Fort Scott winning in 2002 and Eudora taking the 2014 matchup. This will be the first time the teams have met during the season and it will be the Cardinals’ first trip to Fort Scott.
For the 2019 season, simply take the location of the 2018 meeting and go to the other team’s field. So for that season, the order of games will be at Coffeyville, home versus Paola, at Independence, home versus Pittsburg, at Labette County, home versus Chanute, at Bolivar and at Eudora.
Pittsburg has scheduled only three SEK opponents, also including Chanute and Labette County.
Uniontown will play a schedule very similar to the one they’ve played the past two seasons. The main differences are that Kansas City Christ Prep, Oswego and Shawnee Maranatha Academy have been dropped, the latter two deciding to play eight-man football, and Lyndon and Pleasanton have been added.
The Eagles will play the Three Rivers League-Upper Division’s Class 2A teams in the first three games. On August 31, they will open with Southeast, which will be a full league member. On September 7, they will play at Jayhawk-Linn, then host Northeast on September 14. September 21 will be the date for the Lyndon game, which will be played on the road. In 2018, the Eagles will host Olpe for a second consecutive season with the game scheduled for September 28.
Class 1A-District 1 play begins with a road game at Pleasanton, which is moving from eight-man football, in what is also a league contest on October 5. Colgan will visit Uniontown on October 12. The season concludes with a road league and district game at Yates Center on October 19.
Northeast will play either a Three Rivers League-Upper Division opponent or a Class 2A-District 1 game in every game of the next two seasons. The first three games will be against the Class 1A opponents from the TRL so that a full league schedule can be played. The season begins at Pleasanton on August 31. Yates Center will travel to Arma on September 7 and the Vikings will play at Uniontown on September 14.
District play begins on the 21st with a game against Southeast at Cherokee that also counts in league play. Former CNC League rival Riverton visits for a district game on September 28. On October 5, the Vikings will host a game with Jayhawk-Linn that will count in district and also conclude league play.
The last two scheduled games of the season are district only. Those are a home game with Humboldt on October 12 and at Erie on October 19.
If the Vikings are one of the four playoff qualifiers from their district, they’ll play a first-round playoff game on October 19. If they are not, they will face either the fifth- or sixth-place team from District 2 on that night in a final regular-season game.
